Please refer to the comments left for you by some of the 1,700+ people who have signed the online petition in the last two weeks. Hunt and Lanigan have told me that they would have opposed had they been on the panel.I thought it couldn't get any worse but in the last week, I have also discovered that you have been deceitful / less than transparent with myself and the public claiming repeatedly that Eddie was rejected by "a unanimous cross party panel decision". Consequently, the decision to reject Eddie is founded on a misinterpretation of the criteria, by a bogus panel, reported inaccurately to the public and with incorrect minutes. After obtaining the minutes to the FOTB Advisory Panel meeting of Oct 1st, I saw that this was patently untrue as NONE of the designated panel members attended. As a result, the fiasco has brought shame upon the title of Mayor and of this borough.
To ensure that members are properly informed, I request the opportunity to read a short statement in support of Eddie and show the film in the chamber before votes are cast. Hunt told me last week that he had come off the panel last year!
It is also right that the Civic reception for Eddie that was set up in light of his nomination being turned down, is cancelled. Because Eddie is 'a person of distinction' and therefore he is eligible for the FOTB. Lanigan not listed on the Council website as a FOTB panel member and Cllr. I asked The Mayor's PA for clarification on who the FOTB panel members are and I was told Cllrs. This whole saga has been a complete shambles from start to finish.
Yours Sincerely, So presumably she will be writing to the Queen about all the other veterans? A national award does not negate the fact that the Mayor has been deceitful about the "cross party panel decision" that wasn't. They seem to be making it up as they go along, they have misinterpreted the criteria, don't know who the panel members are and have been deceitful about the panel itself.
I would like to thank the Mike Findley MBE for his vocal support at the previous council meeting in December; and every councillor for backing the motion. I asked you to confirm this and you did but what you didn't tell me was that she was not a panel member and nor did you tell me that none of the three had taken part.
Hopefully at some point in the future, we may yet see Eddie awarded the honour. Yourself and a Lib Dem stand in does not make a cross-party panel in anyone's book. So is it possible that you yourself did not know who was on the panel?
Thanks to all members of the public who also voiced their support in recent months. Furthermore, in the last few days, I have also been informed by Cllr. Or is it more a case that you were being not entirely transparent?
I am working on the final cut of the film which I hope will be unveiled publicly in the Spring. What should have been something simply and inherently positive has been rendered a complete shambles that has left myself and many others feeling angry and disgusted. Hunt that he DID NOT send apologies as he believed he had left the panel after May's election. From the outset I had been led to believe that Cllr. Either way, it took you over 2 months to organise a cross-party panel meeting that was two parties short and gave rise to a nonsensical decision that Cllrs.
Last Thursday, at the full council meeting of Redcar & Cleveland, a motion was put forward by Cllr.
Steve Turner to scrap the existing criteria for Freedom of The Borough nominations citing it was "not fit for purpose" given the recent debacle involving my nomation of Eddie Straight.
The result was a unanimous vote in favour by the entire council- all 59 members- and that included the Mayor.
A working group will now be set up to review the FOTB procedure and rewrite the criteria. Turner for taking up Eddie's cause and putting forward the motion entirely of his own accord.
