The Los Angeles Dodgers face yet another playoff disaster, and fans can watch live online as ace lefty Clayton Kershaw takes the mound Tuesday against the New York Mets, in a desperate attempt to keep the Dodgers alive and force their National League Division Series back to Dodger Stadium in Southern California for a decisive Game Five.
The Dodgers crashed out of the Division Series after four games in 2014 and lost the NL Championship Series in six games the year before that.
The Dodgers have made 18 World Series appearances going back to their days in Brooklyn, but have won just five and have not even been to the Fall Classic since 1988.
For the first time in the 2015 postseason and only the third time in the last six weeks, Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly gives a start to former All-Star Yasiel Puig, who has been sidelined since August with a strained hamstring.
Enrique Hernandez and Justin Ruggiano also start in the outfield with regulars Andre Ethier (pictured above) and Carl Crawford, both lefty batters, taking a seat on the bench.
Three-time Cy Young winner Kershaw was the loser in Game 1, and his postseason record in seven playoff series is well below his career standard.
After his Game 1 loss, Kershaw now sports a 1-6 postseason mark with a bloated 4.99 ERA and 1.231 WHIP (walks plus hits per innings pitched).
But Kershaw pitched decently in Game 1, giving up three runs on four hits in six-and-one-third innings and fanning 11 Mets. He’ll need better control on Tuesday against a Mets lineup that, as long as he can avoid free passes, he generally masters.
Of the Mets lineup, only Daniel Murphy, with four hits and a homer in 13 plate appearances, have any noteworthy success facing the 27-year-old lefty Kershaw. If the Mets cannot close out the series on Tuesday, they not only will be forced to make the cross-country trip back to Los Angeles for a decisive Game 5 on Thursday, they’ll be required to beat 2015 Cy Young candidate Zach Greinke, who won Game 2 surrendering two solo homers, but not much else over seven innings of five-hit baseball — walking no one — in the Dodgers’ 5-2 victory.
To find out how to watch Game 4 of the National League Divisions Series live online, the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. For the Mets, their starter Matz will be making just his seventh Major League start, and first in the postseason.
New York Mets, see the streaming link in the final paragraph of this article. He faced the Dodgers just one time, on July 5, cruising through six innings in the Mets 8-0 victory that day in Dodger Stadium.
Matz surrendered just two hits and walked two, striking out eight.
